While Billy Graham was known as a preacher, Sister Aimee Semple McPherson was a revivalist, and there's a big difference. Certain aspects overlap, but revival is when there's a strong outpouring of the Spirit of God and the gifts and fruits of the Spirit manifesting in real time, as on Pentecost.
1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
13 Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.
15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is [but] the third hour of the day.
16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; (Act 2)
Aimee was very fond of the verse: "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever" (Heb.13:8), especially as it pertains to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and how it manifests, including contrition, repentance, weeping, prayer, praise, known and unknown tongues, interpretations, visions, visitations, prophecies, and healings.
Aimee had strong criticisms for the emerging Pentecostals and, at the same time, needed to remind Methodists of their early days when such manifestations were repeated.
She was purposely non-denominational, and that position is prominently displayed at the front of her Angelus Temple.
Nevertheless, her calling also included going around the world preaching Christ with signs following = REVIVAL. No other person could so consistently fill a stadium like Aimee did, beginning with the start of her ministry, with her newlywed husband Robert Semple - at the Royal Albert Hall at age 18 - with no preparations whatsoever (except being yielded to God).
