Plan Shower for Roberta and
Recently Acquired
Husband
Excitement still held the faithful of Angelus temple in its grip today even though the uproarious welcome given Sister Aimee McPherson Saturday and Sunday had gone down in history as one of the greatest celebrations ever witnessed by Los Angeles.
It was all over but the shouting today and even yet a fervent “hallelujah” can be heard here and there in the vicinity of Echo park.
Tonight there will be a reception and a “good, old-fashioned” shower for Roberta, the evangelist’s daughter, and her husband, William Bradley Smyth, on top of the Temple Bible school.
“I know each of you will want to give them a little something,” Business Manager F. C. Winters announced to the thousands who filled the church yesterday.
10,000 AT STATION
More than 10,000 persons welcomed Smyth, Roberta and Aimee at the railroad station Saturday afternoon.
And Sunday, Aimee led three services. At each one she presented young Smyth, her newly acquired son-in-law. The evangelist preached only once, at the night service.
Gone was every indication of her recent nervous collapse and breakdown. Gone were the lines of care and the aftereffects of her face lifting operation. Gone, even, was the red which formerly tinged her hair. Now she is blonde and tanned by the suns of the world. She is thinner and more dynamic than she ever has seemed before.
She sang a new song she has written, “The Four Square March,” and preached a sermon called “Attar of Roses.”
MOTHER IS ILL
Meanwhile, Mrs. Minnie Kennedy, Aimee’s mother, lay ill in a tiny cottage across the street and heard sounds of the celebration.
Aimee has not seen her mother since the return. She has sent her no word, although Mrs. Kennedy tried to communicate with her daughter yesterday.
“I couldn’t stand it any longer,” Mrs. Kennedy said.
“I bought a little card that had a picture of a rainbow and a golden sun. The blue sky meant love and the rainbow hope.
“I put it in a little envelope and wrote on it, ‘To my darling, darling Aimee. Always, mother, when you need me.’”
